Choosing the Correct Frame for your Stud Work
Planning to install a pocket door frame? Here’s a quick guide to help you choose the correct system, so everything fits perfectly and finishes cleanly.
Know your stud width
Our frames are designed to fit standard stud sizes: 70 mm, 75 mm, and 90 mm. Rocket Door Frames clearly shows that you should match your stud work width (e.g., 63 mm CLS or 70 mm steel = 70 mm frame) so the system sits flush and true.Don’t forget finishing thickness
Once you add the plasterboard (and any plywood or other layers) on either side of your stud wall, the finished wall thickness changes. For 70 mm stud work: finished thickness ~ 95 mm. Rocket Door Frames
For 75 mm stud work: finished thickness ~ 100 mm. Rocket Door Frames
For 90 mm stud work: finished thickness ~ 115–140 mm, depending on fire-rating layers.
This is key to ensure your frame and door lining kit sit correctly.
Choose the correct frame type for your wall system
Whether your wall is timber, steel or CLS stud, or even masonry for ultra-flush options, the frame must align with those specs. For example fire-rated (FD30) installations require extra layers of plasterboard and correct jamb/intumescent fittings.
Measure your door size (or even reuse)
If you’re installing a new door or re-using an existing one, ensure the frame supports the size you plan to use. Pocket frames from Rocket support UK standard door sizes (and FD30 fire rated doors need a specific compatible door).
Why it matters
A correctly sized stud and frame means:
✔ Smooth sliding or flush operation
✔ No awkward gaps or mis-fits
✔ Clean, professional finish with correct wall thickness and lining kit
✔ Compliance if you’re installing fire-rated doorsIf you're unsure of your stud width or how your wall will finish (ply + plasterboard etc.), it’s always worth doing a quick check before ordering the frame.

While the pocket frame is a simple system to install, if you require elements such as FD30 fire rated doors and jamb liners it is important the correct sizes are used.
